Making Reliquary | Martha Ferris

Making Reliquary

"Making Reliquary involved many basic techniques of manipulating fabric, some dating back thousands of years and most traditionally performed by women. For me, the piece brings to mind relics sometimes seen in Italian cathedrals: a bit of some saint's shroud, a lock of another saint's hair. I wanted to create the feeling of a small chapel in a large cathedral: ancient and rich, mysterious and quiet."
